The Adoration of the Shepherds, James Tissot One of a remarkable series of 350 paintings done primarily in gouache — in which Tissot depicted events in the Bible's New Testament relevant to the life of Christ. At the suggestion of John Singer Sargent, the entire series was acquired by the Brooklyn Museum in 1900. They selected some for an exhibition in 2009, and have the entire series online, along with other works by the artist.
