Landscape by Paul Cezanne (1839 – 1906). Cezanne relied upon the colourman Julien Tanguy of Montmartre to provide him with the exciting new colours which became available in the 2nd half of the C19th. Until the last decade of the C18th only two new colours were added to the Renaissance pallette, viz Prussian blue and cobalt, but in the C19th new colours were being constantly invented. These new colours transformed painting. Impressionism could hardly have happened without them.
